Day 47

Gate 3 – Hod

As mentioned on Day 46, Netzach and Hod are compared to a person’s legs, in that they function ‘together’ as compared to the arms/hands which we tend to favor or use in a more ‘dependent’ manner. (I.e., holding a pitcher and pouring into a cup.) The text we are referencing, ‘Sha’are Orah,’ combines Netzach and Hod into one chapter (as gates 3 and 4).

The following terms, found throughout the Tenakh (and other Torah literature), are linked to the Sefirah of Hod. They reflect one or more of the aspects/ideas associated with Hod, such as: glory. majesty, splendor, reverberation, prophecy, surrender, ‘temimut’ (sincerity), anchor, steadfastness, left leg and ‘Hosts of ELOHIM.’

Names applicable that are specific to Hod are:

Elohim Tzevaoth (G-d of Hosts)
Hod (Majesty, Glory)
Hodaoth (Thanksgiving)
Boaz (Left Pillar in the Holy Temple)
Regel Semol (Left Leg)

Names associated with either/both Netzach and Hod are:

Shechakim (Skies)
Etzem HaShamayim (The Essence of Heaven)
El Emunah (Faithful G-d)
Shokayyim (Legs, Thighs)
Birkkayim (Knees)
Vav Shel Shem (Vav of the Name)
Shevarim (Interpretations of Dreams)
