Day 46

Gate 4 – Netzach

As Netzach and Hod “function together” like one’s legs, they are often considered ‘in unison’ though they do have their respective characteristics as well as shared ones.

For instance, they represent slightly different Names of G-d with regard to the “heavenly hosts”:

Netzach: “O Lord, G-d of Hosts [YHVH Elohim Tzevaoth], hear my prayer; listen, O L-rd of Jacob. Selah.” (Psalms 84:9)

Hod: “O G-d of Hosts [Elohim Tzevaoth], restore us; cause Your face to shine, and we will be saved.” (Psalms 80:8)

Where one sees the dual-name “YHVH-Tzevaot,” this is connected to the proactive side of Netzach via “YHVH,” a name associated with Mercy.  (See also this proactive aspect of prayer in our discussion of the Ana Bekoach.)  Where we see “ELOHIM-Tzevaoth, this relates to the ‘reactive/response’ aspect of Hod via “Elohim,” which relates to Judgment.

The following terms, found throughout the Tenak (and other Torah literature) are linked to the Sefirah of Netzch. They reflect one or more of the aspects/ideas associated with Netzach, such as: victory, eternity, prophecy, orchestration, initiative, persistence, bitachon (confidence), right leg, “Hosts of YHWH.”

Names applicable that are specific to Netzach are:

YHVH Tzevaoth (L-RD of Hosts)
Yakin (Right Pillar in the Holy Temple)
Makom HaEtzah (The Place of Counsel)
Netzachim (Victories, Eternity)
Regel Yamin (Right Leg)

Names associated with either/both Netzach and Hod are:

Shechakim (Skies)
Etzem HaShamayim (The Essence of Heaven)
El Emunah (Faithful G-d)
Shokayyim (Legs, Thighs)
Birkkayim (Knees)
Vav Shel Shem (Vav of the Name)
Shevarim (Interpretations of Dreams)
